Scar apply the pressure with their Caged EP

Drum and Bass | Tuesday 6th October 2015 | Arren

Scar returned to Metalheadz this week with their latest EP, Caged. It's an absolute monster and all 5 tracks are sure to trash any dancefloor.

Scar is the joint venture from two respected producers, Survival and Script. Individually they have earned a good level of respect and each have a solid back-catalogue of tunes.  However together, as Scar they have unlocked unknown potential in each other as their collaborative work is up on the next level.  There industrially raw approach to production has been noticed for all the right reasons. Because it works, really well.

Caged is their new EP that's out on Metalheadz and is their biggest release yet. The duo are on top form as they show off their talents in studio with 5 tracks which jump between the many styles in drum & bass. The title track Caged is a heavy-duty roller that's assertive on the subs with a hook that reels you right in. From the moment it starts it's just energy that’s complemented with those droning mid ranges to keep it rattling through. On a similar tip is Fall From Grace, both have that filthy industrial feel, but unlike the track before, Fall From Grace boasts a masterfully crafted broken drum pattern to keep the ravers on their toes.

Teaming up with Artificial Intelligence, Free Fall is one for the steppers. The perpetual pounding  combined with that deep and dark bassline is a killer combination that’ll please the screwfacers. Your Move and Return To Swerve are on a lighter note, both with soulful vibes. The latter track is a liquid fuelled beat that’s full of emotion. It’s a simple arrangement but it works so well. Your Move meanwhile feels like a trip down memory lane. It has jungly rhythm with dark bass bumps that are very reminiscent of the older tech step style that dominated the scene not so long ago.

Scar’s Caged EP has really pushed them up a gear. They've managed to create 5 killer tracks that are sure to get any party going. All whilst maintaining a sense of individual style to themselves, and that in today’s music industry is hard to come by.
