Multi-talented music man Sam Frankl unveils 'Macondo'

Other | Wednesday 23rd September 2015 | Christina

A multi-talented creator whose work has spanned the realms of music, production and poetry, Sam Frankl presents his debut solo single, ‘Macondo’.

Co-produced with emerging beatmaker LuQus, ‘Macondo’ embraces a downtempo, electronic framework interspersed with stunning live instrumentation from cellist Meg Ella, alongside percussion from Only Rays and vibraphone by Rob Hervais-Adelman. The single, set for release on 2nd October, will be accompanied by a bossa-flavoured remix entitled 'Leaving Macondo' from Sam himself, which features a recording of beat poet Jack Hirschmann, alongside a second remix from LuQus.

Frankl began his music career as one half of alt-pop duo Red Room, who formed in 2009 and played the likes of The Garage in Islington and Kent’s Hop Farm Festival, alongside gaining traction on The 405 and Stereoboard with their Waxpoetics EP. Following their split in 2013, Sam turned his focus to writing: a published poet on both sides of the Atlantic, his video series ‘The Surrogate Poets’ was issued in literary journal Black and Blue and saw him travel the breadth of the U.S.A filming strangers reading verses he had written for them.

Having already made a mark with his poetry, Sam Frankl’s moving lyrics and impressive musicianship in ‘Macondo’ makes for a piece that is both melancholic and exhilarating, and certain to resonate long after listening.
