What makes Julio Bashmore tick?

House | Friday 31st July 2015 | Christina

We’ve been waiting five years for his debut album to come out and now we’ve got a whole host of Knockin’ Boots goodness to get into. With a short film, a multimedia exhibition and the album itself, we take a look at what makes Julio Bashmore tick.

Fried Chicken
JB loves the good stuff (his fave shop is Miss Millie’s Fried Chicken back in Bristol), so much so that it was the unofficial theme of his Knockin’ Boots exhibition at Red Bull Studios. The multimedia show, designed to give fans an insight into his mind, featured a sick custom neon chicken shop sign, ceramic drumstick dishes, chicken shop flyers and takeaway boxes full of goodies.

Granddad Don
Don almost stole the show with his appearance in Daniel Brereton’s short film celebrating Knockin’ Boots (although Julio’s friend Henry roller-skating is up there). Sitting down with Julio, he said “I listened to you on Annie Mac, well I listened for five minutes. That’s when I heard the tune of course. I listened for five minutes and then I thought ‘that’s enough, that’s enough for me.’” Go on Don, keeping it real.

Gryff the dog
Bashmore’s buddy, Gryff the chow chow, is a star. He features in Brereton’s short film, he’s the subject of Tess Redburn’s specially commissioned artwork for the album exhibition, and there’s even a track on Knockin’ Boots called ‘Bark’. And he’s super cute.

Panama hats
Julio Bashmore likes hats and he particularly likes panama hats. He likes them so much that Alex May Hughes felt inspired to create a 23ct gold one for his exhibition.

Top tunes
From the breakout ‘Battle For Middle You’ to the massive ‘Au Seve’ to ‘Holding On’, Bashmore makes music you want to move to. His disco-tinged house draws crowds the world over; we can testify to that fact as we saw him tear up the Bugged Out OFF Sonar party at Razzmatazz in Barcelona with just his panama hat for company.
