Clubs & Spades keep rolling with 'Clearer Coast'

RnB/Hip Hop | Wednesday 20th May 2015 | Christina

Sheffield hip-hop collective Clubs & Spades – MCs Matic Mouth and Shinobi, and producers Andy Nicholson and Jamie Shield – have unveiled 'Clearer Coast’, the second single from their Deal Or No Deal EP. Featuring the vocals of Tom Prior on the hook, ‘Clearer Coast’ gives an emotional and often unheard perspective on life in a breaking home. The key-lead track, which fuses hip-hop and pop influences, has already received support from Charlie Sloth, who made it his Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

The EP as a whole is a snapshot of British street life and identity; real issues are tackled and delivered with a refreshing northern twang. The record also showcases the group’s skill with wordplay and diverse approach to the hip-hop genre - the funkier edged title track ‘Deal Or No Deal’ sits alongside ‘Ego’, which is much rawer with it’s driving beat and harder flow. This is UK hip-hop at its best.

Complex, Red Bull, Toddla T and DJ Target have already shown love for Clubs & Spades, and the group themselves have already opened for the likes of Blackalicious and Public Enemy, but this EP will see them skyrocket.
