Free summer in London

Other | Friday 15th May 2015 | Laura

Here are some eccentric and original artistic things to do and see for free in London.

Zabludowicz Collection: 20 years of collecting

The Zabludowicz Gallery, located in a former church in Chalk Farm for eight years, presents one of the world's leading independent contemporary art collections. To celebrate its 20th birthday, the gallery has decided to showcase an exhibition that reflects its identity. Thus, the exhibition offers significant and rarely seen works by over 30 leading artists such as Damien Hirst, Rachel Whiteread, Martin Creed and Christopher Wool. It's a must see.

Zabludowicz Collection, 176 Prince of Wales Road, London NW5 3PT, 020 7428 8940. 20 years of collecting - 30 April - 16 August 2015.

Saatchi Gallery: PANGAEA II: New Art from Africa and Latin America

This exhibition is the second part of the two-continent contemporary art survey at the Saatchi Gallery. The exhibition’s title Pangaea means 'the most recent of a series of supercontinents'. The entire world, in other words. This exhibition will provoke feelings of astonishment and awe. In fact, the selection is random and the show works best when you stop trying to make sense of it and enjoy it for what it is.

Saatchi Gallery - Duke of York's HQ, King's Road, London, SW3 4RY. PANGAEA II: New Art from Africa and Latin America - 11 March - 6 September 2015

Whitechapel Gallery: The Production Line of Happiness - Christopher Williams

This is an exhibition of photographs about photography. Somewhere between a film director, a picture editor and an art historian, the American artist Christopher Williams investigates photography as the defining medium of modernism. The artist's prints reveal the unexpected beauty and cultural resonance of commercial, industrial and instructional photography.

Whitechapel Gallery - 77-82 Whitechapel High St, London, E1 7QX. The Production Line of Happiness - 29 April - 21 June 2015

The Banksy Tunnel

Behind Waterloo station is Leake Street. Here you will find the Banksy Tunnel, named in honour of the famous and mysterious British street art artist, known around the world for his revolutionary graffiti and murals. This tunnel is 300 meters long and graffiti fully permitted, attracting many amateur and experienced artists. This is amazing to see how such a place can be transformed into a colourful and lively place, filled with free artistic expression. This is a must-see for all fans of street art.

The Banksy Tunnel, Leake Street, London SE1. Permanent exhibition.
