Pussy Riot Guilty Verdict Leads to Demonstration in London
Three female members of the Russian punk band have been found guilty in a Russian court.
The three defendants Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, and Maria Alyokhina, 24, have been found guilty of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.
The band has received international support from numerous artists all of whom have called for a fair trial for the band. Amongst the artists to give their support was former Beatle Paul McCartney, Johnny Marr and Pete Townsend.
Despite the increasing international pressure upon the Russian authorities the guilty verdict has still been passed with far reaching consequences. The band could face up to three years in jail and this has lead to demonstrations outside the Russian embassy in London and two riot vans full of police officers have been called to the scene.
So next time you’re in Russia and thinking of protesting outside a church better think again.
