Afroman recreates classic 'Because I Got High' to support Cannabis legalisation

In association with NORML - National Organisation for Reform of Marijuana Laws - and WeedMaps, a website that allows users to rate and review different weed strains and medical marijuana dispensaries across the US, Afroman has released an updated version of his classic smoking tune 'Because I Got High' and, if anything, it's even better than the original.

For those of you who somehow aren't aware of the original, it was a classic of early 00's hip hop, and has been a favourite of stoners worldwide ever since. The tongue in cheek tune features Afroman as the protagonist getting into increasingly ridiculous situations because he's high. It's clearly a joke, and a very funny one at that, but it has also helped reinforce negative stoner stereotypes. Afroman decided to fix this with the updated take on 'Because I Got High', labelling it the 'Positive Remix'.

This new track has been released to coincide with NORML's Smoke the Vote campaign, a major push for the legalisation effort in the US. They are hoping to raise awareness for a number of votes over the legalisation of cannabis in Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia and for medical marijuana in Florida, all of which take place on 4th November.

After repeatedly listening to it, we're hopeful that this song will cross over to the mainstream and educate people about the potential benefits of everyone's favourite herb and maybe even sway public opinion in the great legalisation debate. But you decide for yourself and watch the video below:
