Game Of Thrones Becomes Most Illegally Downloaded TV Show

Other | Monday 7th April 2014 | auroramitchell

The HBO show has kept its record of being the most pirated series. This follows last year’s figure of 5,900,000 downloads which exceeded the actual 5,500,000 viewership.

Season four premiered last night which provoked this.  It turns out that whilst the availability of streaming is great for fans of the show, especially UK fans who can’t access it at the time of airing – the authorities aren’t too happy. It’s become harder to police illegal movie and TV downloading but because Game of  Thrones has become such a phenomenon, it’s come to their attention.

This is bad news for GoT fans since there have been 61 websites reported for copyright infringement. The show’s executive producer seems less than phased though, commenting that he thinks the achievement is a compliment and said last year it was “better than an Emmy”. They’ve already won various awards, including Emmys and a BAFTA so he has the best of both. This isn’t likely to deter people though as the demand for the series outstrips any empty threat of shutting down streaming sites – which has proved to become increasingly difficult.

They’ve found a TV programme to pin the blame of illegal downloading on but it’s unsure how effective their crackdown will be.
