Kimmel vs. Kanye West, the creative genius

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 10th October 2013 | Joss

Kanye West suffers yet another Twitter dig after making amends with online-rival Jimmy Kimmel on TV... only this time it wasn't Jimmy.

Either someone at TIME magazine has poor spelling or they agree with Jimmy Kimmel (and the rest of the world) in implying that Kanye West is a douche. Nevertheless, the facts are the facts – Kanye West did indeed cite himself as a creative genius.

This claim wouldn’t be acceptable even if he were indeed a creative genius. We never hear Beyonce telling everyone how great her voice is and we don’t see Banksy screaming ‘I’m really good at street art’ into a megaphone. Quite frankly, if you’re a creative genius, your mind is full of ideas, not inflated images of yourself. If you’re a creative genius, your hands are busy perfecting their craft, not writing immature tweet-responses to a far-wittier, far-more-charismatic talk show host.

That all said, Kanye West has created a name for himself, 25 per cent of which is based on his talents, 25 per cent on his personality and the remaining 50 per cent on his pointless, frameless sunglasses. Surely a genius would know that plastic slats do not offer adequate eye protection from the scorching sun, nor do they offer protection from strobe lights at nightclubs.

I’m curious to know what people think of when they think of Kanye. I think of several songs I like, Jesus Walks for example. I never knew it was intended autobiographically. Joking aside, his songs are catchy, great even. I’m not sure about ‘genious’. If Kanye ever hopes to win that battle, he needs to patch up a few holes in his argument… just like his glasses.
