The Future Dub Project

UK bass collective The Future Dub Project are releasing their excellent debut EP Captain Hook on 3rd November.
Former reggae-dub act Strobe Circus members and longtime friends, James Duff and Kyle B have been making music together now for a decade. The pair’s collaboration inspired a new collective and with Mike Pocket on the bass and French DJ Thomas James in the fold, The Future Dub Project was formed. Guests such as Peta Oneir and Tree House Fire frontman Sam Rothon lend their tones to the group.
Chainska Brassika singer Ashley James lends his vocals to the EP’s track Captain Hook and the legendary Jonny Murray is on the trumpets as well as co-writing duties. The trumpets drive the rhythm over the 2-tone beat whilst James’ vocals give the track a feel-good air. The upcoming video for the track, a collaboration with BBC 3 writer Rachel Hirons, is set to be just as excellent.
In contrast to Captain Hook’s feel good vibe, Boogie Walk slows it down to create a more moody atmosphere and shows Future Dub Project’s isn’t afraid to take a diverse approach to production. The atmospheric feel is complimented by the soft vocals of Sarah Iman Telman and emphasizes the drops of the track. The vocal loops and distortions go a long way to contributing to the ambience and exhibit the group’s mastery over digital production and diverse range of genres.
Smoove adds a funky bass to Captain Hook, mixing it with a heavy beat and drums whilst retaining that distinctive trumpet sound and James’ vocals.
After popping up on BBC Introduction’s radar with Bounce, taken from their upcoming album ‘Pirate Transmissions’, the group was invited back for a full live session, whilst their Secret Garden Party performance made for a truly incredible year.
That’s not all - their remix of The Skints’ The Cost of Living Is Killing Me has been lauded by the band. And this excellent debut is going to put them firmly on the map. Check out the EP below.
