Negash Ali – The Collage EP

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 26th February 2015 | Christina

Following up on new single ‘Lionheart’, previously unveiled alongside an in-depth interview with Interview Magazine and the video premiere on RWD, Negash Ali is back with a new EP The Collage.

While pregnant with him, Negash’s mother fled the conflict in Eritrea for Denmark, where they spent five years in refugee camps, before settling in Aarhus. So Negash, who now lives in London, has a wealth of personal experience to draw from.

The Collage is soulful and introspective, more melodic and less aggressive than traditional hip-hop. With Negash you get heart and soul – heartbreak is the subject of ‘Lionheart’, and this emotionality is carried across into ‘Holding On’. The final track ‘Harmonize’, which sees Negash rapping over his own production for the first time, is also incredibly expressive. The considered production allows the rhymes to stand out and his soulfulness is wonderfully exposed when the track is stripped back.

As he told Complex Magazine, "'Harmonize' was written as a testament to feeling disconnected from your dreams due to everyday life's responsibilities. In that sense, the song is about trying to plug out from the constant noise that surrounds us to find a moment of peace, and in that peace to find yourself.”
