Nightmares On Wax (live)

In conjunction with a Nightmares On Wax ‘best of’ release on Warp Records, Soundcrash present an unforgettable night of legendary acts headed up by (the self proclaimed!) ‘Granddaddy of Warp’ – NIGHTMARES ON WAX plus Stones Throw head honcho PEANUT BUTTER WOLF, Los Angeles / Brainfeeder starlet TEEBS, Ninja Tune pioneer DJ FOOD. And if that wasn’t enough there’s support from Paul White, Jesse Hackitt + Future Dub Orchestra. A unique chance to experience some of the most influential DJ’s and producers right here in London town on one special night. 24 October 2014 is the date. Do not miss this one.

Warp Records’ longest serving artist – “The Granddaddy,” as he puts it – DJ Ease aka Nightmares on Wax is an institution, albeit a delightfully different one. Focusing on his current projects, he let’s them revitalize his music. Beginning with a love a hip hop and starting out in a breakdancing crew, his music has continued to evolve with some completely epic releases. The ‘Smokers Delight’ and Carboot Soul LPs, originally out in ’95, is a defining moment of the ‘downtempo’ genre and ranks alongside LPs by Portishead and Massive Attack from the same era. Expect epic beatsy smokers sounds.

After realising he was having as much fun promoting the records as he was producing and playing them, some time ago Peanut Butter Wolf decided to have a go at running a label. That label is now one of the most important out there. The Stones Throw Records boss man juggles his time between signing and A&Ring defining artists such as J Dilla, MF Doom, Madlib, Aloe Black, Dam, Funk, JRocc, (even the office interns were special as Stephen Ellinson aka Flying Lotus will testify) and offering the public a chance to see one of the out-and-out creators of today’s beat scene playing his amazing AV set.

With a recent album ‘Estrara’ released through Flying Lotus’ renowned Brainfeeder label. Teebs has been playing a string of live shows showcasing his new material, including a brilliant debut show at Birthdays, London back in May for Soundcrash. His skill and diversity with the sounds he uses create an expansive listening experience which flows fluidly from one song to the next.

DJ Food, the electronic music project originally conceived by the members of Coldcut on the Ninja Tune independent record label, is back on the Soundcrash stage. The project started in 1990 on the premise of providing metaphorical “food for DJs“. With nearly 25 years of DJing experience and more than a decade serving up the freshest of sounds for DJs of both Ninja Tune and Coldcut’s weekly radio show ‘Solid Steel’, Strictly Kev is now in the Food hot seat and plays a super special AV show.

Paul Whites EP ‘Watch The Ants’, sees him joined by the motley crew of Trim, Sean Price, Homeboy Sandman and rap superstar-in-waiting Danny Brown, who recruited Paul to produce nearly half his forthcoming album ‘Old’ and cited him as “my fav producer to work with”. His musical knowledge is personal, diverse and his status as a uniquely talented UK which makes him one of the most exciting producers of the moment.

If this wasn’t enough, joining the lineup is Jesse Hackitt from the worldly jazz inspired group, Owiny Sigoma Band, (Brownswood) and playing live is the flowering musical talent , Future Dub Orchestra .
