Interview With DJ/Producer Markantonio
Hi Marco, how do you feel today?
I feel very good thanks...
It’s been ten years since you started your first label Analytic Trail; what is your favourite EP released on this label
Honestly after ten years of Analytic Trail, I am still loving the releases in the same way, if I had to choose, I would say that I like the first one and the next one.
From 2005 your sound seems to be much less influenced by funk or vocal samples and much more techno-minimal imprinted, what made you turn into this new direction?’
I think there is not a real source of inspiration in all this. When I am in the studio I behave in a natural way, giving free rein to my musical fantasies, the result is an eclectic work, and will not always produce the same kind of music. From this reflection comes MKT Rec, my other label designed as a platform for tracks from different style than what I usually propose on Analytic Trail.
Which one of your tracks has the funniest anecdote?
The title of this track was related to a season of my life where I spend money but I could not earn. The income of that season was very low.
The title of the track with Joseph Capriati “Molotov” comes from the Incendiary Bomb, doesn’t it?
Yes, the title of the track came out in the studio after we made it . From the first time we played it we understood that was a real bomb, but the title Bomb was too simple and from this we took the decision to work with a bit fancy, and it became “Molotov”.
Your remix of “Silicon” by Reset Robot and Alan Fitzpatrick is one of my favourite tunes ever, when you listened to the original one, what did you think it needed?
When I work for a remix I never think that the track is to be improved, but always to create new sounds from that project. In the specific case of this project, I enjoyed not only focus on the kick even on rhythm and bass, but using the original sound track with a new mix with some new loops. The result was good!
From the beginning your DJ sets very often were b2b with another founders of Neapolitan Techno, Rino Cerrone, how did it begin?
With Rino we are friends from long time, and between all the passions there is the music. After our performances The b2b was created as a joke ... but after the first time we were not be able to stop it . The funny thing is that we never tried the performance before the DJ set or in studio ...I was so happy that with this performance. We have been traveling the world together and bring our project in some of the most important electronic music scene worldwide.
What’s the difference between the tracks produced under your labels “Analytictrail” and “MKT rec”?
MKT Rec is a label designed as a platform for tracks from different style than what I usually propose on Analytic Trail.
What do you think are the main differences?
I think now the approach is more professional than the earlier times, where each day spent in the studio was more unconscious. Today having already more experience, I demand that my work will always have something special, and maybe today I commit myself in this much more than before. This for me does mean that I can not take a day away from the studio because the passion is still as strong as the first day.
