Sneaky Sound System Interview

Ahead of Proud2 opening it's doors. We caught up with one of the acts scheduled to play at one of the first nights there, Sneaky Sound System. The Austrailan Dance musicians have just announced a new album and are ready to storm the new venue on the 5th of March. Here is what Black Angus (A) and Connie Mitchell (C) had to say.

What are you guys up too at the moment? Any news on your third album?

C: We just completed the third album sooooo exciting we are immensely happy.

Are you looking forward to playing at one of the opening nights at Proud2?

C: Hellllll Yeahhhhhhhh....are you kidding its going to be mega!!

What's your inspiration? Who did you listen to when you where younger?

A: We grew up on The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Human League, New Order, ELO, The Cars etc and have moved through Italo disco, French house, German techno, Brit pop, American soul, you name it! We love the songs from yesteryear and the music of the future - that’s what we try and do

We’ve seen a decline of Australian music making an impact in the charts in the UK. Do you feel Australian music doesn’t get the credit it deserves?

C: I think that music in the world has garnered itself down into fewer categories. Australia is making great music that's really on point ,.....as to not getting the credit it deserves...possibly, although thats subject to conjecture...cream always rises to the top!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

A: Heaps of techno, a bit of Michael Jackson, LCD Soundsystem and more than anything – our new record.

You did a song with Tiesto called I Will Be Here. How did that track come about and are you looking to collaberate with anymore artists in the future?

A: He sent us over a pretty chilled track and we wrote the melody and lyrics and then recorded it in about 4 hours. It was very quick. He really liked it and reworked the music – basically it came back to us on steroids. We tidied up the vocals a little bit and then it was done. Then we did a show with Tiesto a couple of months later and that was the first time we actually spoke to him...he was very nice.

Favourite place to perform?

C: Russia, Ibiza, Australia, Naples, Wolverhampton

What's your key dance move?

A: If you see me moving like The Boss moving to Dancin’ In The Dark – you’ll know I’m starting to feel very comfortable.

What are your food addictions at the moment?

C: White Asparagus and Australian cured meat. Irish oysters

Can you give us an exclusive?

C: The title of our third album is “From Here To Anywhere”

What legacy do you hope to achieve?

C: Well hopefully a body of work that stands the test of time...and something the grand children won’t think is naff...or one song that makes it on those classic hits radio stations next to Robert Palmer and the Bee Gees ..Ha!
