System of Survival Interview

The Guestlist Network had the pleasure of interviewing the guys behind the craziest and most legendary parties and sets on Earth: System of Survival!

Where did your name come from?

Sometimes this profession can appear easy but it is not at all, that is why we called ourselves "System Of Survival."

Where do you live ?

We are living in Ibiza actually!

Nice, I wish I could say the same! When and how did you meet each other ?

We come from the same town, Salerno (Italy). We met in the early 90's at some of the first House parties. Then our friendship become a profession.

Tell us something about Circoloco, do you remember the first time you played/how did it start?

Everything started 8 years ago after an accidental encounter with Antonio and Andrea ( the owners of Circoloco) and from the rest was history...The first time was incredible, there were great vibes and a good feeling!

I bet it was! The two of you must share the same musical vision especially after so many years working together. Is there anything you would change or make different if you could’ve?

We have different musical tastes that come from different backgrounds but we make sure that they merge into a single style. We have two parallel projects, one as "Surfbit"- oriented to Nu-Disco, Funk and Classic House and another that we do not want to reveal just yet!

You spent the whole summer in Ibiza of course! So what is new in the White Isle?

Ibiza is a place still under development that is its charm. This summer the main 'news' was the reopening of Circoloco and the arrival of new residents as well as the experience of legendary residents.

Yeah, it's been a really great summer for Circoloco, we are so glad it’s finally back! Which is your best track of last season?

Ferdi Blankena - Mother Soon was a top track for us! But a track that is very dear to us both would have to be Desensitize - Jonny White.

I personally have a Detroit/Berlin techno background,I started listening to it in my brother's studio when I was only 12, after almost 20 years I'm still here and loving it! How did everything start with you how do you think music has changed since then?

We think the music has not changed because you can hear old tracks in almost all the current DJ sets. It is the way of making music that has changed. 20 years ago it was almost impossible to think about having a home studio because the costs were too high. Today with the advent of new music software, CD Sample loops and high performance computers, everything is less complicated. The only difference is the quality of music. When something becomes part of the public domain the level of quality is lowered considerably.

If you could stage a rave anywhere, which place would you choose and which  3 DJ’s would you take with you?

In Ibiza of course, open air! And we’d take Clive Henry because he’s a DJ at the top of his game with a musical taste that is similar to ours. We’d also take Ernesto Valituti, in our opinion he is really forward-thinking and he has a great background (at the moment he is not very well known but he is well known on the club scene in Italy.) And of course we’d take Theo Parrish -if you've seen him play I do not need to explain why, just pure energy!

Nice, have you got any projects for the future guys? Anything we should be aware of?

We'll be out in a month, releasing a single on vinyl called "Italia 1990" on our label IANVS71. It will include several remixes from artists like Nima Gorji, Outart, Jose De Divina, DOSlive and Autre. As anticipated there is the Surfbit project with several releases on our digital label FVENTI. We are also going around the world touring as well as trying to find time to finish our artists album, hopefully it will be out by the end of Spring 2011.

We’ll have to check up with you later next year to see how it’s going then! At the end of November you are playing for Rhythmatic’s 3rd anniversary here in town with Marco Carola, it's going to be really big, are you excited to play for a London crowd again?

We always love London. We think that there is a true spirit of Party. It is the place we always come back to with pleasure. We cannot wait!
