DJ Ironik

We caught up with DJ Ironik at The Guestlist Network headquarters to find out about his new single with 90210’s Jessica Lowndes, his career thus far and the way to his heart...
When is the new tune with Jessica Lowndes actually coming out?
The single is released October 25th and if people don’t know, Jessica Lowndes is the star from 90210 - which is a massive program in America. It’s a great opportunity for me to have someone like her in my video  and single.
So whats the track called?
The song is called ‘Falling in love’ and its different to my old stuff, but kind of similar in a way, because its still about love which is what  I mainly talk about in most of my records. But this track has a happy vibe, do you know what I mean? Rather than making you feel sad it makes you feel good and happy and if you’re actually falling in love it makes you feel good so that’s the main thing.
There are a lot of girls that read The Guestlist Network so is ‘Falling in Love’ a statement you’re making?
Not really, to tell you the truth... the honest truth, I've never actually been in love. Funnily enough most of my songs are about love but they are mainly about people around me that have been through those experiences. Maybe like movies I've watched, I watch a lot of DVDs and movies so I learn a lot about love from them. But I haven't been in love yet, hopefully one day Megan Fox will come along...
You’ve been playing all over the world, I know there’s big things going on for you. Where’s your favourite place right now?
My favourite place...I’ve had loads of crazy experiences, especially around Europe.
I really liked performing in Greece last year, they really know how to treat you well out there, they were really nice people. Norway was also crazy like crowd reaction wise, they knew songs word for word and i think that was one of my first shows abroad so I didn't know what to expect. I wasn’t even sure if they would know English?  but they were crazy and the response was mad.
So you have made some major achievements in your life, has there been one you’ll never forget?
Being at the Mobo Awards last year and being nominated for best UK act. It was a crazy feeling and performing on that night, the whole night in general was something I’ll always remember.
So you take your mum out to your big shows yeah?
Yeah my mum came to the Mobo Awards as well. I did the national movie awards recently and met Tom Cruise and Chris Rock they chilled in my dressing room. My mum came to that as well she comes to all the big things really.
So you are only 22, how long have you actually been in the music business?
I’ve been doing music since I was 13, so really young. I started DJ’ing at the age of 13 and then I got to about 15 and decided to start producing and making records. Then I got to about probably 18/19 and I was recording with a lot of artists like Chipmunk and Wiley in my bedroom. Then I just started to write my own stuff when I got to 19/20 and now I'm 22 and I'm DJ’ing, producing and rapping! You never know what can come next maybe singing?
The music industry is very gruelling, have there been times in your career where you have become despondent?
I never knew that I wanted to be a superstar or anything like that but I just knew I wanted to make music. It has always been about my love for music rather than the business. I never knew I was going to make a record with Elton John, I never knew that I was going to be signed by a major record label, it all just happens. I don’t think you should ever expect anything so that’s why when people ask me ‘Where are you going to be in 5 years time?’ I can’t tell you because I don’t know.
So you have worked with loads of really interesting people like Elton John and Chimpunk. Is there anyone who you really would like to work with?
There’s a few, Alicia Keys would be cool she’s very talented. Drake is one of my favourite artists right now, Drake’s really hot. UK wise: probably Sway, N Dubz and people like that but Drake’s definitely top of my list, I’ve been listening to a lot of his stuff recently.
So you’re  feeling Drake’s vibe? He likes the chicks too! Have you been watching anything good lately on TV?
I’m not really a TV guy unless its Come Dine With Me.
Come Dine With Me? Why do you like that?
Because I’ve always been obsessed with cookery stuff, but I cant cook, that's why I like it I think!!
So that could be a way for one of these special girls to get in your life?
Yeah, come cook for me! hahaha!
Whats your favourite sandwich?
My favourite sandwich would have to be tuna and sweetcorn
So there you go girls if you can’t cook that well...
Make me a tuna sandwich! haha!
So you’ve got your album out soon?
Yeah, October 25th and the tour starts November 2nd that's going to be all around the UK, you can get tickets from newlive.com
What dates are you doing in London?
We’ll be at the Islington Academy in London. I think the dates going to be December 2nd? hopefully you guys can come down its going to be a great night!
It would be great to catch up with you again before you disappear to America for good!
Hopefully not man, The UK is the place!
