20 Years Of Wiggle (an Interview with Nathan Coles)

House | Thursday 27th March 2014 | Joe

Interview by Joe Le Groove

What are you up to right now?

Im getting ready for the weekend and doing lots of online promo stuff for Wiggle's 20th Birthday party this weekend, at Autumn Street studios in Hackney Wick. Im also doing some  PR for our 20 yearsof Wiggle Ep.. that just came out on monday. Oh.. and writing the answers to this interview  :)

Its the 20th anniversary of your infamous party/label that you started with Terry Francis, what has been your fondest memories?

So many fond memories and it's hard to pick any in particular really. One thing that stands out are all the strong friendships that have been forged along the way and the smiles those individuals bring to your face when you think about all the happy times.

It continues to go from strength to strength, did you think the brand would last this long?

Who knew it would last this long really, you just put your head down and keep chugging along and then the next thing you know it's your 20th. There have been up's and downs and moments when we've thought it might be time to throw the towel in. We weren't  doing them that regularly  for a few years and then we did our 16th birthday at Paramount and I really put my head into pushing the parties online and what ever you have to say about it.. facebook has been a big help. As we used to mail flyers to peoples houses and hadn't updated the list for years. So facebook helped reconnect with people. The next thing we discovered there was a whole new generation into the Wiggle sound and we realised we'd gone full circle.

What plans have you got for the label and party in 2014?

We've got some really great releases lined up for this year on the Wiggle Records and we're doing a 20 years of Wiggle tour also, which is starting this

weekend with the 20th in London and we'll also be doing a Brighton 20th on the 12th of April and we'll be one of the main parties for the

the first Brighton Music conference. Fabric will be releasing a 20 Years of Wiggle compilation in september / october time, so we've been really busy

planning that and we've been asking on the dj's and producers who have either played or released on the label to submit something for it. So lots of great

music to choose from.

Besides Wiggle, what are you up to?

I just started a Villa rental company called loveibizavillas.com and it's going incredibly well and im really excited about it.  I only started it a month ago now and

the response has been overwhelming. Im having the website built at the moment, but people can see a small selection of some of the

places i have available on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/loveibizavillas

There have been many changes in the scene due to the advancement of  technology, how have you embraced it as a DJ?

Yes things are really moving fast with technology as always and it's amazing how fast in such a quick space of time. I love it and fully embrace it! I've

been playing with Traktor with control vinyl for sometime now and Im really happy with it. It's nice to have the feel of the record decks mixed with the

technology.

If you could invent a new  genre of music what would you call it?

Pubstep would be a good one i think

If you weren't a DJ/Promoter/Label Owner, what would you be doing?

I would be doing something in art or design.. maybe furniture or lighting

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

Poverty has got to be top of the list really, that and bad pop music

What other artists are pushing your buttons right now, in terms of production?

So many great artists out there to pick from. Here's a few though: Jay Tripwire, MarcAshken, Pure Science, Dachshund, Mihai Popoviciu Deetron, Phillip Ort, Maceo Plex and the list goes on

If you were banished to a desert island and had to take 3 famous people with you, who would you take and why?

So many great artists out there to pick from. Here's a few though: Jay Tripwire, MarcAshken, Pure Science, Dachshund, Mihai Popoviciu,

Deetron, Phillip Ort, Maceo Plex and the list goes on
