An interview with Billy Reilly, owner of Pacha

House | Thursday 31st October 2013 | Annalisa

Pacha has grown into the most dominant clubbing brand in the world. Famous for those iconic red cherries and VIP clubbing, this year has seen the club take a new musical direction with a more underground approach. We caught up with owner, Billy Reilly to get the latest on the new developments and plans for the future.

You have taken a new direction with the music and events with Pacha London with Pure Pacha. You have now taken a more underground approach; can you tell us the reason behind this?

It’s been something we have been considering for the past few years since The Cross closed. With Ibiza taking a different musical direction this year we thought this would be the right time to put our thoughts into action and explore the more underground music scene which is out there and becoming more prevalent at the moment.

Can you tell us a bit about the lineup over the next few months and how this reflects on the new approach?

We have chosen on Fridays to promote every act under our in house promotion PACHA PRESENTS which showcases the best of underground dance music being supported by the likes of UMEK,1605 SHOWCASE and CADENZA SHOWCASE WITH ARGY, MICHEL CLEIS and ERNESTO FERREYRA. This is a snap shot of the global talent Pacha London will be presenting on a weekly basis. Saturday keeps the more traditional dance sound in place not to offend our global Pacha followers, with talent in the form of CEDRIC GERVAIS, TODD TERRY, DIMITRI FROM PARIS, and NORMAN DORAY will guarantee to keep the Pacha lifestyle swinging and give London what they have been looking for.

The club has also undergone some huge changes internally with building work, what can the clubber now expect on a night out at Pacha?

Pacha has always lacked the feel of a real club and I felt it was time to give the old girl some new love. I decided to make some minor changes and use the old formula: what would I want if I visited the club as a punter, something I did not do when we opened as I had my hands full running 4 other venues at the time. Intelligent lighting, the removal of furniture and re-positioning of DJ booths can make the club feel completely different with the right eye and a lot of hard work.

You are one of the most dominant clubbing brands in the world, what is the key to the success?

Pacha is larger than just a clubbing brand, it is a lifestyle. The attention to detail that all of the Pacha operators have shown globally, has kept the brand alive through out the years.

This summer in Ibiza, Pacha celebrated their 40th anniversary and drafted in fresh soirees, did that reflect on the movements that you decided to take?

Forty years is a massive milestone in a company’s history, let alone in club-land. As previously mentioned we have been in close collaboration with Ibiza so there has been some method in our musical madness.

What music are you listening to right now?

My daughter learning the piano and another on the cello.

You continue to grow and develop but what is in store for the future of Pacha?

Well, a Pacha Hotel would be nice and we are in negotiations regarding a festival in the near future.
