Justin Theroux has been at the centre of an explosion of fresh interest over the past weekend as it was announced not only that he is to direct his first major film, but also that he has gotten engaged to girlfriend of over over a year and former girl-next-door Friend, Jennifer Aniston.
Theroux is set to direct Will Ferrell and Steve Carell in his directorial debut Swear to God. Not much is known so far about the film except that Ferrell plays a narcissistic hedge fund manager who claims he's seen God. As for Carell's role in the film, at the moment your guess is as good as ours.
The 41-year old actor comes from a steady line of brilliant writers - his father is novelist Paul Theroux and uncle the novelist and poet Alexander Theroux. Other notable family members include his British cousin, the popular documentary film-maker Louis Theroux. It comes as no surprise then that Justin is pretty apt at penning screenplays, having written for movies such as Iron Man 2 and Tropic Thunder in the past. He will also rewrite the script for Swear to God, originally drafted by Due Date's Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, before filming begins.
The proposal was made while celebrating Theroux's 41st birthday on Friday 10th August, officialy getting engaged after over a year together as a couple since both actors starred in this year''s Wanderlust (although they had previously been friends for some years).Theroux's representative Stephan Huvane released this statement: ""Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage." This is the 43-year old actress's second marriage after divorcing Brad Pitt in 2005 and the Theroux's first after ending his fourteen-year relationship with fashion guru Heidi Bivens.
Ferrell and Carell will also reunite in the much anticipated Anchorman 2 later this year and Theroux is tipped to write and direct the sequel to cult comedy film Zoolander.
Shooting for Swear to God is scheduled to begin next July.
