Emma Thompson to feature in BAFTA'S Screenwriter Lecture Series 2014

The BAFTA and BFI Screenwriters’ Lecture Series exists to celebrate screenwriter's authorial contribution to film, and gives esteemed writers a platform to share highlights and insights from their careers.

Emma Thompson is announced as one of the international acclaimed screenwriters to feauture in BAFTA's fifth annual Screenwriters' Lecture Series, taking place this September. The Academy award and Bafta winner Emma Thompson is not only famous for her many important acting roles (Sense and Sensibility, Nanny McPhee, An Education, The Remains of the Day, Saving Mr Banks), she is also an acclaimed screenwriter. She has won an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for Sense and Sensibility.  

She will be part of the line-up that also includes James Schamus (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dagon, Brokeback Mountain) and director Steven Knight( Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises). This will be the fifth edition of this event in collaboration with the BFI.

What is a screenwriter? These are Jeremy Brock’s words about his job: “It is the screenwriter who creates the blueprint for what we eventually see and experience on screen. The complex relationship between screenplay and completed film comes under vivid scrutiny this year, as we invite an impressive line-up of speakers combining their screenwriting talents with equally successful pursuits in directing, producing and acting.”

The event will take place between 18 and 29 September. These are the dates:

Saturday 20 September         Emma Thompson         BFI Southbank
Monday 29 September          Steven Knight                BAFTA
