Bob Marley's Legend has been remixed

Reggae | Wednesday 19th June 2013 | jim

The most popular reggae album of all time, Bob Marley’s Legend, is being remixed. You may ask, why mess with perfection? However, the album has been remixed and is set to drop next week. The whole album including all of the classic tracks such as Jammin, Exodus, Stir it up and a few others like Punky Reggae Party have been remixed by a variety of producers and musicians including several by Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley and Lee Scratch Perry.

However, along with those musicians known for their reggae sound others such as RAC, Photek, Pretty Lights and even the drum and bass legend Roni Size have been roped in to mix up the songs. Listening through to the preview I can tell this is going to be an album that is definitely going to split the crowd. I am sure a lot of people are going to claim that it is blasphemy to have messed around with some of the songs, and in some cases I completely agree. The electro and ‘bro-steppy’ ones have been messed with too much and sound strange next to others which have been given a more dub sound, which I think has actually given the songs a new dimension.

From a quick listen to just the previews of the songs, I think the stand out tracks are ‘Get up, Stand up,’ ‘One Love, and ‘Punk Reggae Party.’

Listen to the preview of the album below and also a short making of video, which features Jason Bentley and Lee Scratch Perry.

Have a listen and decided for yourself whether this experiment was a step too far.
