Downloading Dresses

In 1995 teen cult film ‘Clueless’ generated a digital wardrobe that main character Cher would use. Her clothes choice would start with a fruit machine type game where her choice would then be churned out by the huge contraption that was her wardrobe. This was the closet of dreams to every teenage girl who would say ‘when I grow up im getting that closet’. 18 years on and home closet technology remains the century old same, until now.

Virtual software company Facecake has created a virtual system ‘swivel’ which allows you to try on clothing, accessories and make up while moving in real time, and without having to take off (or put on) a thing.

This system has been made ‘to improve the retail experience’ with trying on clothes, but making this kind of technology available for the home with the clothes your already have can make the 90’s teen flick idea a reality.

This kind of technology coupled with the 3d printing craze hitting the fashion industry could completely change the way we shop. With trying on virtual clothes from home, in the near future when we all have 3D printers in our homes as foreseen by developers, we could simply download and print our favorite designs off the internet, including shoes & accessories! With programs like swivel, you can try on clothes virtually before they materialize in front of your face. It wont be long until you can say,‘oh il just download something to wear tonight’.
