Go back to your Roots.

Other | Monday 3rd March 2014 | Claire

Females have it hard, trying to keep their makeup looking good, whilst constantly dieting, exercising, tanning, waxing, shaving, exfoliating. Basically there is a lot of 'ing' going on. It's a constant battle of maintenance in which our bodies are determined to fight us tooth and nail. Teeth and nails that have probably been grossly neglected whilst trying to do all the other stuff we are expected to do. However, a recent trend has taken some of the pressure off. Roots are back in. Here are 5 reasons why roots are the way forward and could potentially improve your life.

#1 Ombre

Ombre hair has been THE biggest trend from late 2013 until the present day. It came and went in 2011 and now it has most definitely come again, with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian (possibly the most annoying woman on the planet but we can't argue, she has good hair*) Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung championing the look. Since the whole concept of ombre hair is to go from dark to light, what better way to get a natural ombre than to let your dark roots come through.

*Whilst trying to locate a recent picture of Kim Kardashian, she has apparently had so much surgery since I last paid her any attention I didn't even recognise her. She (bar her hair) is everything that is wrong with the world.

#2 Deliberate roots are acceptable.

There has always been a stigma attached to having your roots showing. As if the look is soley reserved for women that spend their time in Aldi sporting track suits. It is soley the fault of chavs worldwide that roots were relegated in the first place. However, deliberate roots don't count and do not carry the usual trampy connotations that come with the word. If you incorporate them into your look on purpose, with style and without shame, roots can look pretty cool.

#3 Smells like teen spirit.

We all know fashion always comes around full circle, and 90's grunge has most definitely made its way back round. If you've had the pleasure of visiting Dalston or Shoreditch of late you will know exactly what this looks like, and love it or hate it, it's in and it's here to stay, the hipsters, the roots and drinking cocktails out of teacups.

#4 Dumb blondes will be a thing of the past.

For those of you with coloured blonde hair, the fact dark roots are no longer a faux pas is actually beneficial to your health. Apparently if you bleach your hair, all the toxins do in fact end up in your blood stream, over time making you less intelligent. So there is some scientific truth behind all those dumb blonde jokes.

#5 Don't like your natural roots? No Problem.

If like me, you have a really crap shade of natural hair, a shade so terrible the only other terrible thing it can be likened to is war, get some fake roots put in. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than highlights and a lot better for your hair than anything you could do to make it lighter.

See, not only is having roots cool, it will save you time, money and make you more intelligent. Probably gives you the ability to talk to animals and write really good novels too.
