Oval Space Music // on the terrace w/ Freerange Records Porchlight & Rockingchairs LP Launch
Oval Space Music announce a summer of independent label showcases set over the venues outside terraces , showcasing a musical alter ego to their main space music programme. Concentrating on unique, niche and quality house music, Freerange Records, Toi.Toi.Musik, Laid, Scissor & Thread, Sneaky, Sushitech, Petit Records and Closer will play these intimate all day Sunday affairs. For the first instalment, Oval Space welcome Freerange Records, a label at the heart of the house community for over 15 years for the official launch party for label founder Jimpster's upcoming LP, Porchlight & Rockingchairs.
Kick-started in 1996, London based Freerange Records is the brainchild of two close pals - Tom Roberts and Jamie Odell. To begin with, this shiny new sonic springboard was used solely by Jamie to indulge his two production monikers – Audiomontage and Jimpster. However, once he’d found his groove, the pair started searching for talent that shared their musical vision. Soon enough they were joined by a selection of artists who had a vehement love of groove-based, soul-tinged house music that united the organic and electronic. Enter Shur-I-Kan, Manuel Tur, Switch, Milton Jackson, Andre Lodemann and Tony Lionni. In these guys, Jamie and Tom had not just found a tight-knit crew, but a succinct musical troupe – Freerange now has a truly identifiable sound. More recent newcomers such as Detroit Swindle, Kyodai and Nils Penner all help to confirm Freerange is still more than capable of breaking new talent and pushing things forward whilst staying true to its roots.
