Feat: RUZSA MAGDOLNA AND FALUSI MARIANN
perhaps the most iconic figure of 20th century Hungarian and European music and cultural life, Gabor Presser is coming to Scala on the 8th of July, accompanied by Magdolna Ruzsa and Mariann Falusi. For most of you, he would not need and introduction, for those who are having trouble matching the person with the music: you have certainly come across his work, without knowing the artist behind.
Presser’s 45 years of career left a mark not just on the Hungarian and European music sphere, but in theatres as well as in the movie industry. He composed scores for over 30 movies, for a number of musicals as well as for many songs for the biggest artists.
With his first band, Omega, after a very successful UK tour in ’68, he appeared on BBC Late Night Show, also released a live album, named Omega Red Star from Hungary, recorded and produced in the UK.
Presser’s supergroup, Locomotiv GT, formed in ’71, he recorded many albums in places like the Air in Oxford Street and in Los Angeles. Hits that never age have been composed, such as ‘Ringasd El Magad’ (“Tend Yourself”) . Many of their albums have been released all over the world and the songs are still being played in radios.
Composer of many soundtracks and musicals, the two most known are ‘Padlas’ (“Attic”) and ’Kepzelt Riport egy Amerikai Popfesztivalrol’ (“Imaginary Report From An American Pop Fesival”), which has been a huge success all across Europe, and which was the first successful rock musical, having even been played in the USA.
On this Sunday night Presser is performing with Magdolna Ruzsa, the best composer of the EuroVision 2007 Contest, who has been supporting Bryan Adams; and Mariann Falusi, winner of several international contests in several countries such as Cuba and Mongolia, among other places.
On 8 July at Scala, a life of music on stage, accompanied by two of the best performers from Hungary. As Presser himself often says: “I’m just a composer who sings his songs sometimes”.
May he sing for years to come!
