DJ Target cut his teeth as a member of seminal UK Garage group Pay As U Go, and went on to found Roll Deep alongside Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. He’s perhaps known best, though, for his radio work, presenting the best new tracks on 1XTRA’s most listened show, Friday night’s 100% Homegrown.
Russo formed in 2010, three Londoners brought together through a shared passion for Aaliyah and Massive Attack, but keen to forge a sound impossible to pigeonhole. Blending soulful female vocals, heavy bass and floor-shaking synths, catch them before the release of their debut single ‘Fool’ in March.
Maxsta is the latest grime MC poised to go mainstream. After running with Bow’s Mucky Wolfpack collective, hw went solo, guesting on tracks with Dot Rotten, Jammer and Wiley. His 2010 track ‘East London Is Back’ earned him a street reputation, but new single ‘Spit Fire’ shows his range, a retro-tinged anthem with one eye on the charts.
Birmingham MC C4 is one of DJ Target’s favourite new acts and is set for big things in 2012.
