Talisker Cinema

On May 22nd, the world’s first cinema to be powered by rowing machines will launch the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2013, the world’s toughest rowing race.
A giant 30 foot screen by Tower Bridge, London, will show an epic adventure film, which will be revealed 48 hours before the screening. The screening will be powered by 8 stationary rowing machines, requiring an enormous amount of human power to make sure all of the adventure lovers in the audience get to see the end of the film.
Ticket holders to this free event will be able to take part in the rowing, or just sit back and enjoy watching the film. Past and future Atlantic rowers are coming together to power the cinema and celebrate the launch of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2013, a 3000 nautical mile ocean rowing race from from La Gomera in The Canary Islands to Antigua, which kicks off on December 2nd 2013. During the course of the race, teams row in grueling 2 hours shifts for a minimum of 40 days. The energy they generate equates to 1,228 KWH, which is enough to power Tower Bridge for 24 hours. The race is notoriously tough; more people have been to space than have rowed the Atlantic.
