Exposure: New Band Of The Day - Temples

Indie | Thursday 8th August 2013 | Billy

"The kaleidoscopic influx of new ‘neo-psych’ rock band Temples is catching the attention of the music world."

With the monumental success of Tame Impala’s sophomore album Lonerism last year, the floodgates of the current indie/rock scene have burst open with an array of ‘psych rock’ bands spat out, and sitting at the very top of this trippy, acid-infused pile are the Kettering based four piece, Temples.

The band have earned their stripes in the music world having supported acts such as Kasabian, Suede and The Vaccines on top of being personally handpicked by The Rolling Stones to support them at their Hyde Park shows. There are some great vibes bouncing around the music industry about these boys at the moment, with Noel Gallagher joking that he’s "too busy talking about Temples and Jagwar Ma to reform Oasis". Current Cribs guitarist and The Smiths legend Johnny Marr also praised the band in a recent tweet simply stating, "Good work, Temples", after previewing their debut single ‘Shelter Song’.

'Shelter Song' kicks in with a Beatles infused twanging guitar riff followed by a cavernous drumming pattern that really sets the pace of the song alight. The 60’s influence is obvious throughout as a hollow, echoing, split vocal rings out in a similar fashion to bands such as The Kinks and again (you can't excape them), The Beatles. There is a strong psychedelic link throughout as front-man James Bagshaw spurts out lines such as "Take me in time, time to the music. Take me away to the Twilight zone". If after hearing ‘Shelter Song’ you are in awe of the bands sheer creativity and experimental sound, then the B-Side to ‘Shelter Song’, ‘Prisms’ will leave your mind somewhere between Strawberry Fields and The Magical Mystery Tour. The flamboyant arrangements of flutes, guitars and trippy layers and textures create a real psychedelic flow.
