REVIEW: The XX Day + Night @ Hatfield House 22nd June

Monday 24th June 2013 | Judith

The XX made a jubilant return to the UK on Saturday by completing their tour at Hatfield house, along with their support acts: Solange, London Grammar, Poliça, Mount Kimbie, Kindness, Jon Hopkins and many other DJ’s.

The atmosphere was extremely friendly; no mosh pits and no fights. It was probably one of the best all day concerts I’ve ever been too! The stage setup was to a great standard; there were 2 stages- one for the main act and the second for the DJ’s.  They were pretty near each other which made life easier for the audience to go back and forth, as the line-up would alternate between DJ’s and the Main stage throughout. In addition, the performers all stuck to schedule, and began with a prompt start, with doors opening on time- a very well organised concert that casted aside the waiting around that you usually do at a live event like this.

The sound projection was spot on. There were no issues with that at all. Everything sounded exactly how it should – just like the CD even! The bass and acoustics were brilliant!

Not only were there live performances going on, but as well as that, there were karaoke booths, free Kopparberg giveaways, and a ‘Phhhoto’ booth (an animated and social photo booth). There was also a great selection of foods from around the world too, which I’m sure was taken into consideration by The XX themselves.

I believe The XX really put their time and effort into planning this event, for it to run as smoothly as it did. They really did receive the praise they deserved when they hit the stage with tunes such as ‘Islands’, ‘Night Time’, ‘Sunset’, ‘Angels’ and one of their most significant song ‘Intro’ which they performed in the second part of their set.
