Kill J tells it straight with 'You're Good But I'm Better'

Indie | Monday 26th October 2015 | Christina

Catapulted into the spotlight with her debut offering ‘Phoenix’, in autumn 2013, Danish experimental pop artist KIll J returns with her new single, ‘You’re Good But I’m Better’.

Featuring her impressive vocal range, the track also demonstrates KIll J’s growing talent for producing self-assured pop with an edge. Juxtaposing an anthemic chorus with bold beats and biting lyrics, ‘You’re Good But I’m Better' chronicles a crush that has become “stale and toxic”. In her own words, “it’s about the bitter cocktail made up of sexual frustration, feeling invisible, lovesickness and alcohol.”

The moniker of charismatic singer/songwriter and producer Julie Aagaard, KIll J has become one of Denmark’s most intriguing exports with her striking aesthetic and eclectic sound, which morphs effortlessly between drone-like beats and bubblegum sweetness. Having already gained traction in her home country, breakout track ‘Phoenix’ brought the Copenhagen-based artist exposure as ‘Band of the Week’ on The Guardian, whilst follow-up track ‘Bullet’ was played by Zane Lowe on his BBC Radio 1 show.

A master in every aspect of her artistry, KIll J composes her own songs and crafts all the lyrics, plays the piano and produces the majority of her music. Also a talented live entity, she has performed internationally, including a bill at Norway’s by:Larm festival and supporting the US-based Danish singer Oh Land.

Kill J will play Ja Ja Ja Music on 29th Oct at The Lexington, get tickets here. Follow Kill J on Twitter, Facebook and SoundCloud.
