The newest lady on the scene Laura Mvula hails from Birmingham and is already expected to make a lot of noise before the year is out. Sitting within the female soul singer/songwriter category ought to be quite a squeeze considering how jam packed it is right now.
However Mvula seems to have bought her way in with a unique production style in addition to the obligatory strong vocals. In fact Paul Lester of The Guardian likened listening to Mvula to ‘hearing Billie Holiday with the Beach Boys’.
Mvula’s four track EP She was released this month, check out the video to the title track ‘She’ below, shot in South Africa by Damian Weilers. Also, have a listen to a second track off the EP ‘Like the Morning Dew’ after that.
