Gig Review: Angel Haze 8/10/12

“I will say to anyone's face I am the best out there right now!" - Angel Haze – Raps New Queen….?
Last Monday (8th October) saw Angel Haze’s debut London sold out show at the Hoxton Bar & Grill in Shoreditch and she smashed it!!
Raps hottest new property came on stage full of energy, banter and mad love for her UK fans, performing a ferocious half hour set full of clever lyrics, super-smooth flow and even a little comedy thrown in (at one point she asked any ‘working girls’ to join her on stage, so a few of her mega fans jumped on stage and shook what their mother gave ‘em!). Notable attendees included Mistajam, Huw Stephens, DJ Target and Rudimental, along with a host of industry types and hip hop heads.
The 21 year-old rapped that she “runs New York” – a bold statement but it seems this confidence has paid off. The track 'New York' and then the subsequent EP Reservation has earned her a deal with Universal.
Hailing comparisons to her idol Nicki Minaj and other current hot female MC Azealia Banks is obviously a compliment but she wants to stand on her own: “Guys pit female rappers against each other because female rappers – if you haven't noticed of late – are a lot more interesting than guys…”
