Electro-legend Greg Wilson to play 8 hours in London

Monday 1st October 2012 | David

A Night With… Greg Wilson @ Loft Studios

The disco edit legend began in 1975 and, following a hiatus that lasted almost 20 years, is still giving crowds all they could want and more.

Often associated with the early 80’s electro scene in Manchester, Wilson also has a global following in the current disco/re-edit scene. Acting as a manager as well as producer during his career, Greg Wilson has taken charge of popular groups, such as Manchester’s Ruthless Rap Assassins, which included former Broken Glass member Kermit (who’d later hook up with Shaun Ryder to form the successful band Black Grape).

As the years moved on, Wilson has kept working in his original electro-fuck roots, compiling the Classic Electro Mastercuts album, which was part of the influential Classical Mastercuts series. He has gained more success from writing on a range of subjects, as well as his edits and mixes (which gained him inclusion in DJ Magazine’s top twenty remixers of all-time). In 2009, his essential mix for Radio 1 became an instant classic, receiving critical acclaim around the world.

Wilson now brings his years of experience to London, with an 8-hour marathon journey through his vast musical knowledge. Due to overwhelming demand and the event has moved from its original home at Basing House to the larger venue Loft Studios in order to goive as many people as possible the chance to enjoy this legend of electronica.

Greg said of the upcoming night: "I’ll be approaching the session as 2x4 hour halves. The first half will be a selection of tunes I played during my original years as a DJ (1975-1984), the second being tracks I’ve played since my DJ return, covering a similar period of time (2003 to date) to give proceedings a certain symmetry.”

A Night With... Greg Wilson takes place on 13th October.
