Disappointment over Bestival scheduling for Sigur Ros

Indie | Tuesday 11th September 2012 | Osh

Ambient post-rockers apologise to fans and hit out against festival organisers.

Many Bestival attendees would consider last weekend to have been a great success. A plethora of fantastic acts and a copious supply of cider and sunshine can put a smile on anyone’s face, yet it seems this year’s Bestival failed meet the expectations of Sigur Rós.

The Icelandic band performed before the headliner Stevie Wonder and had arranged with the festival organisers that their set would be performed as darkness settled over the Isle of Wight. Unfortunately, due to the requests of Mr Wonder, the performance timeslots were altered, leaving Sigur Rós to perform in daylight.

The band was upset by this last minute change of plans and apologised to their fans, referring to the performance as ‘a miserable experience’. The band’s dismay stems from their inability to use atmospheric visuals and a lightshow. Sigur Rós believe that, due to this ‘perfect storm of production issues and technical problems’, they were unable to perform their music in its poetic entirety.

They have released a statement which reads as follows: ‘Sigur Rós would like to apologise to anyone disappointed not to see the band's Bestival performance live online last night. Early in the day a decision had been made to delay broadcast till after the show to give the band a chance to review the footage ahead of webcast, since they were dismayed that their guaranteed 'darkness' slot had been pushed into daylight by the expansive demands of the headliner.’

Sigur Rós hope to turn their UK misfortune around next year after announcing a tour to promote their sixth studio release Valtari.

Sigur Rós’ they are set to play the following dates next March:

2nd - Glasgow SECC

3rd - O2 Apollo Manchester

5th - Wolverhampton Civic Hall

7th & 8th - O2 Academy Brixton

Tickets go on sale this Friday (14th September) at 9am (BST).
