We can say that Hugo Pierre Leclercq, Madeon’s real name, was a precocious boy, as he started to compose music at the age of 11 with the nickname DJ Daemon producing Hard Trance music. At the age of 16, he remixed songs such as Smell like you mean it by The Killers and also did his own productions, the songs For You and Shuriken which effectively mixed pop, trance house and electro. Later on, in 2010, he changed his name and created a new and more personal style closer to Nu-disco becoming Madeon. The same year, he won a remix contest with a mix of The Island, a theme from drum and bass band, Pendulum. He also remixed Que tu veux for Yelle, who used it in her live show. This fast rise means that now, at the age of 18, he is considered a phenomenon inside the electro pop world, having the privilege to appear in 15 Minutes of Fame, a segment of Pete Tong's radio show on BBC Radio 1, with his single Icarus and being invited to participate in the Swedish House Mafia's headlining set at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
We can draw parallels with his rise to fame and the way Justin Bieber became a star, thanks to Youtube and SoundCloud. He uploaded a clip to Youtube where he is performing his mash-up “Pop Culture” which mixes more than 39 songs from artists like Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Madonna, Gossip and The Black Eyed Peas, all run together on-the-fly using a Novation Launchpad. The clip soon became viral and was viewed by 6 million people in just a few days, but it was just a quick way to show what he was capable of and be able to show his talent globally. Influenced by the French duo Daft Punk and the Beatles amognst others, Madeon has created an ingenious and addictive style that thrills the crowds worldwide. He performed recently at Festivals such as Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Coachella in California, and Electric Daisy Carnival in New York. If you want to see this Young promise of electro pop, he will be performing next weekend Creamfields Festival, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, lining up with artists David Guetta, The Chemical Brothers, Paul Van Dyk and Groove Armada.
