It has been announced that dubstep star Skrillex is set to contribute to the soundtrack for up and coming Disney film ‘Wreck-It Ralph’.
The producer and DJ will contribute tracks to the new animated film, which will have feature characters voiced by actors and comedians Jamie Lynch, Sarah Silverman and John.C Reilly.
The news was announced last week (12th July) at the ComicCon industry event – via Billboard. ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ is set for release in November.
This news has been a huge stride between the relationship between dubstep and the film industry, but more closely, with Disney. This could potentially provide a new platform for dubstep producers and DJs to showcase their talent through films, which could lead to further opportunities. Other genres of music have been successful with their music in a variety of films, but this could indicate the start of dubstep having noticeable success in the film world.
The news of being involved in ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ probably forced another smile from the dubstep producer after it was revealed last month that he was going to do the original music for new film Spring Breakers. The film will feature James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens and is set to be released in spring 2013.
Skrillex, real name Sonny Moore, was recruited by Harmony Korine, the film’s director, as well as Randall Poster, who has had noticeable success in numerous Wes Anderson films and the TV show, Boardwalk Empire. With the noticeable success of Skrillex, it’s easy to understand why Korine and Poster wanted him to work on ‘Wreck-It Ralph’.
With Sonny Moore having the opportunity to showcase his talent in films, it could potentially lead him to produce more music for future films. If the impact of his music is a success, it could potentially open up more opportunities for dubstep producers and it could lead to greater challenges.
These opportunities will nevertheless benefit Skrillex, but on a larger scale, it could have a significant impact on dubstep as a whole.
