Tech Buzz: Tellys of 2012

It was a battle of the big screens at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show with LG’s 84-inch ultra definition set, tearing away all hopes that Sharp’s 80-inch ever had of reigning supreme.
LG also stole the show for the most space-friendly sets with its 55-inch OLED 3D HDTV being only 4mm-thick. Obviously 2012’s next generation of TVs will be tons smarter with Sony looking into Google TV STB’s and LG running Google’s Android system on one of their Smart TVs.
For the people out there that are forever losing the remote control, Samsung and LG are both moving towards Kinect-style gesture technology as an alternative. LG’s system uses an add-on that looks suspiciously like Xbox 360’s Kinect whereas Samsung opts for a built-in camera for their 8000-series HDTVs.
Panasonic, in the meantime have called on the help of Justin Timberlake with hopes of launching MySpace TV to be featured on new Viera HDTVs. This is an interesting move given that we haven’t been on MySpace since 2006. (Thanks for that, Zuck!)
To sum up: The 2012 TV scene is all about bigger, thinner, smarter, OLED and HDTV.
