The mad scientists over at the California-based SETI Institute spend their days listening deep into the cosmos for any sign of extraterrestrial communication. And they get paid for it. Which makes it one of the most awesomely awesome day jobs we’ve heard of in a while. While their efforts were formerly U.S. government-funded, they rely mostly on private sources now. Also, they’re involved with Carl Sagan - as evidenced by the aptly named and related Carl Sagan Institute. Which makes them infinitely official in our book. Now all they need is a George Lucas endorsement.
