In the UK we are lucky enough to have one of the best music scenes anywhere in the world. Urban music culture thrives on our shores, we break and make new genres and artists every year, innovating and expanding out to the far-flung reaches of our world on a daily basis.
This just didn’t happen over night, we have a rich heritage that dates back to the 80’s when House music was making an impact on the youth that grew tired of Punk and Ska and wanted something new, different and exciting. By the late 80’s we were in the brace of the acid house rave explosion, smiley T-shirts everywhere, with a scene that was built on trippy beats, deep baselines and of course the raving drug, Ecstasy. We were breaking down social boundaries that has stagnated our culture for decades, all different races coming together to fuel their passion for one thing, rave music.
Call it Acid, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass, essentially, it was a group of like minded individuals and DJ’s that pioneered this sound to what we see today. Lot’s of the most successful, chart topping artist and DJ’s you see on TV and hear on the radio now a days refer to these guys as inspiration in their journey to commercial chart success.
Many of the legends came from back then, Carl Cox, Fabio, Grooverider, Andy C, Randall all had a hand in building this music scene we have now, and now, at least 25 years in, we get the chance to celebrate this massive achievement when the UNITED FESTIVAL rolls into London town to school us on how it all began. This coming Sunday, a very special festival is coming to Finsbury Park, bringing together some of the scenes most respected veterans to end the summer of 2014 festivals in true old school fashion.
Some of the UKs leading, multi-award winning brands, join forces to launch a brand new outdoor festival experience:
