Saving Money As You Get Away This Summer

Other | Monday 18th August 2014 | Osh

Summer is in full swing and here at Guestlist we’re following the sun and the music, wherever it takes us! We’re prepping for Dimensions, Outlook, Ibiza and even Borneo. A full summer of parties lies ahead of us, it’s gonna be hectic and messy. We’re gonna find the best ways in which to spend all of our hard earned money. After all, summer’s what we worked hard for, right?

So we’ve come up with 5 ways to save money when you’re partying abroad.

Number 1:

Get an app which will give you maps when you’re abroad, make sure it’s a free one though!  Stop worrying about getting lost again or paying out for expensive taxis to get you two minutes down the road! We would recommend the Navmii app. It’s free to download and it has maps for fifty countries. The best part is that you don’t have to have your mobile data turned on to use it, so it’s free, even when you’re abroad!

Number 2:

Always use public transport when you can. Getting around in taxis may seem easier but you should be spending your money on partying not getting from A to B! Public transport is 10 times cheaper abroad and if you get lost just attach yourself to someone who looks like they might be going to the same place as you!

Number 3:

When eating out, don’t head for a place full of other tourists and English people. Get out there and talk to the locals. That way you will find interesting local cuisine for cheap prices. Don’t be scared to try new things and local delicacies, life is about taking risks and trying everything at least once!

Number 4:

Don’t use your phone too much when you’re abroad, fair enough if you wanna check in with your mum but send her a text, don’t call! Most places have wifi now though, so it’s a good idea to download a free messaging app like Whatsapp or Viber, if you want to talk to people back home. If you’ve got tech savvy parents or grandparents then you can get them to download it too. Some carriers have some pretty good deals if you are savvy.

Number 5:

Forget about exchanging loads of cash before you travel and don’t take the risk of taking your credit or debit card abroad. Carrying cash is risky, especially if you’re partying and you forget where you put it. Getting a prepaid cash travel card is a great idea, and it will save you money. The banks will charge you for purchases and withdrawals abroad at exchange rates that may be unfair. With prepaid travel cards your money has already been exchanged, at the best rate, so you won’t lose money when spending abroad. We would recommend the BreadFX travel card, it’s free and you don’t get any of the hidden costs that you might using your bank card abroad. You can top it 24/7 wherever you are, so you don’t have to put all of your money on your card in one go. It’s a great way to budget whilst abroad!
